The Regional Cancer Hospital of Presidente Prudente was established in 2009 through an initiative by the state and federal public prosecutors of Presidente Prudente, with support from magistrates. This action aimed to utilize compensation funds from Companhia Energética de São Paulo (CESP) intended for municipalities impacted by the filling of the lake for the Sérgio Motta Hydroelectric Power Plant. A portion of these funds, designated by the Public Prosecution Service and judges of Presidente Prudente, was allocated for the construction of the Presidente Prudente Cancer Hospital. The Foundation was created when the Santa Casa Provedoria, which had donated the land, was guided by these public agencies. The Foundation operates as a not-for-profit oversight body of the Judiciary, the State Court of Accounts, and other entities. This allowed the hospital, which was already under construction as an annex of the Santa Casa, to become an autonomous project. It is equipped with all necessary facilities and equipment for cancer treatment and prevention, enabling patients diagnosed with cancer to receive treatment in Presidente Prudente, thus avoiding travel to Jaú, Barretos, or São Paulo. The expansion of the hospital's facilities required the Santa Casa to provide additional land. This has increased the Foundation's responsibility to competently and transparently administer a project involving significant public resources. All board members and committee members serve as volunteers, dedicating their time to the common welfare.
