The Hrim – Hospital do Rim is known nationally and internationally as a Center of Excellence in Kidney Transplantation and treatment of kidney diseases. In the last twenty years, it has been the hospital that performs the most kidney transplants in the world. The hospital was inaugurated in 1998, crowning the work initiated in 1983 by a group of professors from the Nephrology Discipline of the Federal University of São Paulo (Unifesp), when they founded the Paulista Institute for Nephrology and Hypertension Studies and Research (IPEPENHI). In 1993, this Institute was renamed, becoming the Oswaldo Ramos Foundation, the current maintainer of the Hospital do Rim, a non-profit, philanthropic institution with administrative and financial autonomy. Since the beginning of its activities, in addition to excellence in patient care, the hospital has been a field for teaching and research in various areas of knowledge. The structure of the Hospital do Rim is composed of 4 operating rooms equipped for transplants, urological and digestive laparoscopic surgeries, as well as cardiac and vascular surgeries. In addition to 5 outpatient units, clinical analysis and pathological anatomy laboratory, imaging unit (X-ray; ultrasound; tomography and echocardiogram), as well as a hemodynamics area.
