About Hospital da Baleia

The Hospital da Baleia provides medical and hospital care for all of Minas Gerais. The teams work focused on the well-being of children, young people, and adults undergoing treatment. Services are guided by humanization and human dignity. This makes Baleia one of the main hospitals in the State. Located in the Saudade neighborhood, in the East Region of Belo Horizonte, the hospital complex consists of three units, built on a green area of environmental reserve, known as Mata da Baleia. This privileged location offers a direct benefit to the patients assisted, such as less noise pollution, better air quality, and a more pleasant environment that contributes to patient recovery. Rationality and efficiency in the use and application of resources, transparency in accountability, pursuit of sustainability, and, above all, the ability to retain highly competent and dedicated professionals are examples of the Hospital's commitment to the population. There are about 500,000 procedures per year. The majority of these are performed by the Unified Health System (SUS). As a general hospital, Baleia performed approximately 35,000 chemotherapy procedures, 45,000 hemodialysis procedures, and provided more than 93,000 outpatient services in 2016. Currently, the Hospital has about 260 doctors on its medical staff. Hospital da Baleia is certified by the Ministries of Health and Education as a Teaching Hospital, currently offering Medical Residency programs, medical internships, and curricular internships in the health area.
