Hoogheemraadschap Hollands Noorderkwartier makes living and working below sea level possible in the low-lying North Holland region. Our working area covers North Holland north of the North Sea Canal. Our head office has been located in Heerhugowaard since 2011. We also have wastewater treatment plants, depots, locks, and pumping stations spread across the region. With around 900 employees from various fields, we protect the land against floods, manage the water level, and ensure sufficient and clean water in the ditches. This requires a lot of knowledge and expertise. Our vision for a safe North Holland includes practical solutions such as the construction, reinforcement, and maintenance of dikes, dunes, dams, and quays, the creation of water storage facilities, and sufficient and good pumping stations and treatment plants. Our work is vital for North Holland. Besides residents, we collaborate with companies, farmers, (nature) organizations, and governments at national, provincial, and local levels. They are all important partners. To perform our specialized work well in this dynamic environment, we need a diverse range of professionals: from specialized technicians to ecologists, from lawyers to IT employees and financial specialists, and many, many other professionals.
