Highland Homes takes the high ground when it comes to building homes in several Texas cities. The family-owned company builds around 2,500 single-family homes each year, mainly in the Dallas-Fort Worth area, but also in Austin, Houston, and San Antonio. Home prices generally start above $200,000; the company also builds custom homes. Affiliated builder Horizon Homes specializes in moderately priced houses in master-planned communities, with home prices starting at $150,000. Highland Homes also offers warranty and home loan services. CEO Rodger Sanders and his sister, Jean Ann Brock, own the company, which was founded in 1985 and has grown to rank among Builder magazine's top 40 builders in the country.
