Heimatwurzeln is committed to civil climate protection and, with partner organizations, promotes the acceptance of climate protection measures in the mainstream of society. While previous approaches often polarize and are imposed from the top down, we work the other way around. We work subsidiarily and with local people to preserve our local environment, which is threatened by global warming. We rely on the values, traditions, and realities of life of people in the mainstream of society. This approach strengthens society, brings people together, and thus protects the climate much more effectively. A divided, polarized society will not overcome the greatest challenge of our generation. We de-polarize the climate discussion. And thus protect climate, environment, and homeland. Civil climate protection begins with local people, in their clubs, villages, businesses, church communities, wherever they live and how they live. These are people like firefighters, craftspeople, farmers, or employees in medium-sized companies with civil values. That is 40% of the German population, without whom we will not achieve the 1.5-degree target. Climate protection should be seen by people as an improvement in quality of life or a profitable business – through a clean local environment, affordable, secure energy, or new income opportunities through participation models. Forcing people to change their behavior, condemning their habits, traditions, and values, risks climate goals. Ideological climate policy is perceived as a greater danger than climate change itself.
