Founded in 2004 from the merger of ten institutions, Hôpital du Valais today asserts its presence throughout the cantonal territory, where it is the main employer with over 5,400 employees. In 2019, their work enabled the care of 41,000 inpatients and 510,000 outpatient visits. Its annual turnover exceeds 721 million francs. Hôpital du Valais is organized into two hospital centers and a Central Institute of Hospitals: The Centre Hospitalier du Valais Romand (CHVR) - Hospitals of Martigny, Sion, Sierre. - Centre Valaisan de Pneumologie in Montana. - Cliniques de Saint-Amé (Saint-Maurice). - Department of Psychiatry and Psychotherapy of the CHVR, based at Malévoz hospital, in Monthey. The Centre Hospitalier du Haut-Valais (SZO) - Hospitals of Brig and Visp. The Central Institute of Hospitals offers services that are transversal to all sectors and sites of Hôpital du Valais, particularly in laboratory medicine, pharmacy, medical consultations, epidemiology, and IT. It also works for other partners such as the Hôpital Riviera-Chablais Vaud-Valais, private physicians, the Cantonal Public Health Service, the Clinique Romande de Réadaptation, among others. With very few exceptions, Hôpital du Valais offers services in all areas of modern medicine, whether for acute somatic care, non-acute care, psychiatry, or laboratory analyses. Over fifty cooperation agreements and accords have been concluded over the years with the Lausanne University Hospital (CHUV), the Geneva University Hospitals (HUG), and the Inselspital Bern.
