Since 1935 The history of sugarcane in the State of São Paulo is strongly linked to the roots of Usina São João. It is also intertwined with the history of six generations of the Ometto family, since Antônio and Caterina Ometto arrived from Italy. The couple began their life in Brazil working in sugarcane cultivation in the interior of São Paulo. In 1935, their son José Ometto bought Fazenda São João, in Araras — starting what would become Usina São João. Between its foundation and the year 1944, São João produced cachaça and then alcohol, beginning its sugar production in 1944. Today, the fourth and fifth generations of José Ometto lead USJ, with the support of a team of executives made up of market professionals.
