Aeropuerto y Servicios Auxiliares (ASA) was established as the entity responsible for the construction, development, and operation of airports in Mexico. Additionally, it became responsible for supplying aviation fuel. As a result of the crisis in the 1980s, the Mexican government adopted a series of measures to improve public finances and strengthen macroeconomic variables, including the first-time consideration of private capital participation in the country's airport network. To provide legal support for the proposed changes, the new Airport Law and its Regulations were approved in 1995. It wasn't until the late 1990s that private capital was invited through bidding to directly operate the airports. This was the structural change in the Mexican Airport System that we witnessed and participated in. Airports were established as corporations, and among these airports, some are owned by the Mexican government, a process that began in 1998.
