The Grand Hôpital de l’Est Francilien (GHEF) is a new establishment born on January 1, 2017, from the union of 3 MCO and Psychiatry establishments in North Seine-et-Marne: the hospitals of Coulommiers, Meaux, and Marne-la-Vallée in order to guarantee an expanded, efficient, and local care offering. The GHEF expanded on January 1, 2019, with the integration of the Jouarre geriatric hospital. An experience written and built over the last 13 years, with collaboration, co-construction, and the involvement of everyone as its pillars. This merger is based on a medical framework: territorial poles and inter-polar federations. These 15 territorial poles and federations constitute a leading merged establishment, the largest French hospital outside of university hospitals, with an annual budget of half a billion euros. The Grand Hôpital de l’Est Francilien now brings together 6 structures (excluding extra-hospital sites) in the towns of Coulommiers (Abel Leblanc and René Arbeltier sites), Jossigny (Marne-la-Vallée site), Meaux (Orgemont and Saint-Faron sites), and Jouarre. It consists of 2000 beds and places, spread across 130 care units and medical units in which 850 doctors and 5200 other health professionals work. The GHEF's poles, federations, and care units are multi-site and therefore all serve the patients and the population of Coulommiers, Marne-la-Vallée, and Meaux, and all of North Seine-et-Marne. Through coordinated organizations across the entire territory, they further strengthen medical care pathways.
