About General Pension and Social Security Authority (GPSSA)

The General Pension and Social Security Authority (GPSSA) is the responsible UAE-based federal authority mandated to apply pension and retirement benefits for Emiratis (males/females) working in a public or private sector in the UAE or GCC Region, given that they are between 18 to 60 years of age and are fit to work. Employers are required to register their Emirati employees with the Authority no later than one month from their joining date in order to ensure insured individuals, pensioners and beneficiaries enjoy salary contributions upon retirement. The Authority was established by Federal Law No. 6 of 1999, and the Pension Authority applies the provisions of Federal Law No. 7 of 1999 concerning pensions and social security and its amendments. Insurance covers natural risks such as old age and death, and unnatural risks such as disability, illness, and occupational injuries, and includes citizens working in the government and private sectors. To be included in the insurance, one must have UAE nationality, be at least 18 years of age and not exceed 60, and be medically fit for work before appointment. Subscription is mandatory and the employer must register and subscribe for the employee within 30 days of their joining date. Federal government entities, public institutions and banks in which the federal government contributes, as well as local and private entities, are subject to the law, with the exception of local and private entities in the Emirate of Abu Dhabi, and local entities in the Emirate of Sharjah.
