About Gemeente Katwijk

Katwijk is a coastal municipality with character, where people of different beliefs live together in harmony. It is naturally famous for its beach, which attracts day-trippers and long-term visitors alike. Besides the beach, the region is also known for its fishing past, football, and the theatre hangar of Soldier of Orange. The municipality of Katwijk consists of four village cores: Katwijk aan Zee, Katwijk aan den Rijn, Rijnsburg, and Valkenburg. In total, the municipality has over 65,000 inhabitants. Katwijk is proud of its beautiful municipality and does everything to keep it that way. The beach and dunes have been awarded the blue flag and a Golden Quality Coast award. These awards signify a clean, safe beach and high quality of bathing water. It is also a recognition of the efforts for sustainable tourism and the preservation of biodiversity. Katwijk wants to grow while preserving its nature, heritage, and traditions, which form part of the identity of the municipality and its inhabitants. Nevertheless, Katwijk can certainly be called an open society with an innovative character. The award-winning parking garage 'Kustwerk', integrated into a dike beneath the dunes, is a prime example of this. It's a parking garage close to the beach, without compromising the beautiful view for local residents. Working for Katwijk means working for a municipality large enough to carry out all its tasks independently, thus possessing a wealth of in-house knowledge.
