Gemeente Het Hogeland

About Gemeente Het Hogeland

Het Hogeland is a municipality with 48,228 inhabitants (January 1, 2024, source: CBS) in the north of the Dutch province of Groningen. Due to the vastness of the area, there are municipal offices in Leens, Uithuizen, and Winsum. The municipal council operates from Uithuizen, and the municipal executive from Winsum. Space! Space is at the core of the ambition of the municipality of Het Hogeland. It is a concept that can be taken literally, but also full of symbolic meaning. We are talking about physical space – our beautiful landscape and the special villages, hamlets, and centers within it – but also about space for residents, entrepreneurs, and civil society organizations. To shape their lives, to seize economic opportunities, to develop society. Space, also for administrators and employees: to devise pragmatic solutions for substantive issues and, if desired, to implement them as 'custom work'. Space is a strength and space is a need.
