Gemeente Altena

About Gemeente Altena

On January 1, 2019, we merged with the 3 municipalities of Aalburg, Werkendam, and Woudrichem. Altena is a versatile and young municipality on the border of North Brabant, South Holland, and Gelderland. A beautiful area with greenery, water, innovative agriculture, entrepreneurship, and the second-largest inland port in the Netherlands. We are an ambitious municipality. The issues for the rural area are significant, which is why we are investing in even more quality and strengthening our organization. In the coming years, we will build a few thousand homes, widen the A27, expand the inland port, and we want to be a sustainable and nature-inclusive municipality.
