Gelre ziekenhuizen is with 3,500 employees, 220 medical specialists, 300 volunteers, and serves a region of over 280,000 inhabitants, making it one of the larger hospitals in the Netherlands. In conjunction with primary and secondary healthcare, we form a trans-mural care network in the Apeldoorn - Zutphen region, where our two hospitals, outpatient clinics in Lochem, Epe and Dieren, and a Diagnostic Center in Apeldoorn are located. Our mission We continuously strive for improvement and innovation, including by giving a prominent place to education and research. We also want to do this in a way that people are treated such that they will recommend others to use our care. Education and Research Gelre ziekenhuizen is a top clinical hospital. We work closely with UMC Utrecht in the field of education, both for basic training and for postgraduate medical training. Gelre ziekenhuizen has accreditations for eighteen postgraduate medical training programs. Furthermore, we are the teaching hospital where medical students in their third year complete all their internships as part of their SUMMA (Selective Utrecht Medical MAster) training. We also have accreditations for nursing (postgraduate) training and paramedical vocational training.
