Lion Gables Residential Trust (LGRT) is a privately-owned real estate investment trust (REIT) that owns, develops, and manages apartment complexes, mainly in the southern US. The company, which also manages properties for third parties, oversees approximately 35,000 apartment homes and more than 60 apartment communities with some 17,000 units. The company targets "affluent renters-by-choice" through its focus on luxury properties in upscale, high-growth urban areas, rather than outlying suburban complexes. In 2005 Gables Residential was acquired by a private partnership sponsored by ING Clarion Partners, a part of Dutch financial giant ING Groep. The REIT owns properties in California, Florida, Georgia, Texas, and Washington, DC, and manages others in Arizona, Florida, Illinois, New York, and Washington State, for third parties. LGRT has an additional 20 properties in lease-up or under development consisting of some 5,000 apartments and mixed-use space.
