In the summer of 1992, George Stroup, an Oxford student, opened “George & Davis” on Little Clarendon Street. His idea was to create a bright and friendly café serving beautiful homemade ice cream… and it worked! The vibrant atmosphere, delicious treats and morning-til-night opening hours proved to be a hit with students and locals alike. “George & Davis” became affectionately known as “G&D’s”, and we attracted a loyal following of people who preferred “Oxford’s Own” to the more commercial ice cream eateries that arrived a few years later.
