About Finnmark Hospital Trust

Finnmark Hospital Trust is one of five health trusts in Helse Nord and is responsible for specialist health services in Finnmark county. Finnmark Hospital Trust has Hammerfest as its administrative headquarters, where one of the trust's two hospitals is also located. The other hospital is in Kirkenes. Psychiatric health services and addiction treatment are highly decentralized and located throughout the county. Finnmark has a well-developed decentralized specialist health service - the Alta model stands out nationally as a showcase for good and well-functioning decentralized specialist health services. In addition, we have significant activity in Karasjok, where we have a special focus on health services for the Sámi population. Most municipalities in Finnmark have a total of 40 infirmary beds, which Finnmark Hospital Trust finances/subsidizes, and which, given the distances and population density, provide the population of Finnmark with a good and safe health service close to where they live. Finnmark Hospital Trust has chosen to organize its operations into 5 units (clinics): Kirkenes, Hammerfest, clinic for mental health and addiction, pre-hospital services, and operations. Support functions (finance, accounting, HR, payroll, technical operations, and research and professional development) are cross-organizational. Due to the large distances in the county, it has been decided to maintain two hospitals with acute functions in medicine, surgery, and obstetrics. Psychiatry consists of 3 outpatient psychiatric clinics (DPS), located in 6 different geographical areas in the county. Within psychiatry, we have a Sámi National Competence Center (SANKS) which has a national responsibility to offer and develop health services for the Sámi population.
