In 1992, the project began for the formation of a specialized financial entity, which sought to standardize processes and strengthen the credit technology of regional IDESI's, as well as establish a policy for accumulating its own resources for future projects. In December 1996, a new law was enacted creating a new type of organization within the financial system to serve the micro and small business sector: the Development Entities for Small and Microenterprises (EDPYMES). This presented an excellent opportunity to achieve the stated objective. Thus, on November 28, 1997, after being duly registered in the Public Registries, the Superintendency of Banking and Insurance (SBS) granted ProEmpresa authorization to operate as an EDPYME with 3 agencies in Lima, Ayacucho, and Arequipa. From 1999 onwards, EDPYME ProEmpresa intensified its growth, opening agencies in the north, south, and east of the capital, and later in other regions of the country such as Apurímac, La Libertad, Junín, and Huánuco, among others. In 2012, EDPYME ProEmpresa obtained authorization to operate as a financial entity after an arduous qualification process, and in early 2013, it was listed on the Lima Stock Exchange thanks to its excellent results. As of the end of last year, Financiera ProEmpresa has a net worth of over 47 million new soles and shareholders who are fully identified and committed to the development of lower-income sectors.
