In 1962, a group of men with business vision considered the need to create a financial entity that would operate parallel to the Union of Workers of Santander: Utrasan UTC. Thus, 33 associates contributed $350 in share capital and realized their dream on November 23 of the same year. These entrepreneurial Santandereans, who were part of the founding group, created other cooperatives such as those for clothing, welfare services, and education. From this, the idea of grouping all cooperatives into a single entity of a MULTIACTIVE nature was born. Thus, on September 21, 1979, at an Extraordinary Assembly, the name COOPERATIVA MULTIACTIVA DE TRABAJADORES DE SANTANDER “COOMULTRASAN” was adopted. After 38 years, on July 26, 2000, the Multiactive and the Financial entity separated for strictly legal reasons in accordance with law 454 of 1998, which required specialization of activities. In 2003, Financiera Comultrasan was ranked by a study from Ascoop-Association of Cooperatives of Colombia- as the first cooperative in the country in terms of number of associates and first in assets and equity among savings and credit cooperatives; thanks to its commitment to people, its economic backing, its good name in the market, and the importance given to associates by its leaders who are committed to the well-being of their employees and the region in which it is located.
