Founded in 1958 by a group of dedicated families, The Arc of the Farmington Valley, widely known as Favarh, emerged with a mission to transform the lives of individuals with intellectual disabilities. Back then, eight local families united to pave the way for a brighter future for their children. In those early days, when public schools didn't welcome children with intellectual disabilities, these families took a bold step. They established a modest school within a local church's basement. This initiative, born from necessity and determination, marked the humble beginning of Favarh. Today, Favarh, affectionately pronounced as "FAY-var," stands as a prominent local chapter of The Arc—a global, community-centric organization dedicated to individuals with intellectual, physical, and developmental disabilities. With unwavering commitment, Favarh extends its support to over 350 individuals and families, including youths, young adults, adults, and seniors. Our reach extends beyond the Greater Farmington Valley area, touching lives with care, compassion, and purpose. Throughout our remarkable journey, Favarh has evolved from a small school in a church basement to a beacon of hope, advocating for inclusivity and empowerment. As we reflect on our legacy, we remain resolute in our pursuit to create a world where every individual's potential is recognized and realized.
