A total of 21.1 million people belong to the Evangelical Church in Germany (EKD), finding their home in their church communities. Each community belongs to one of the 20 regional Protestant churches, which together form the EKD. Around 200 people in Hanover form the central office of the EKD at the Church Office. They support the Council President, committees, and commissions, organize the cooperation of the 20 regional churches, provide impetus for further development, and shape the public image of the Protestant church through their public relations work. The EKD Church Office also manages the international relations of the Protestant church, both with the World Council of Churches and with more than 100 German-speaking congregations abroad.
