Proclaiming the good news, faith in God the Father, his Son Jesus Christ, and the Holy Spirit, adherence to the Bible, worship, and prayer are the foundations of the Evangelical Church in the Rhineland (EKiR). Christmas, Easter, and Pentecost are our most important church festivals. The Rhenish Church, whose foundation is life in more than 600 church congregations, accompanies people throughout their lives, particularly with baptism, confirmation, marriage, and funerals. Because faith is inseparable from responsibility for the community of people, the Rhenish Church is also intensively involved in diaconal and socio-political work. Its areas of activity also include pastoral care, church music, and education. Close ecumenical ties, both in direct proximity and with partner churches around the world, are part of its profile. The Rhenish Church is the second-largest of the 20 member churches of the Evangelical Church in Germany (EKD). The 627 church congregations are connected in 37 church districts (as of January 1, 2023). The church territory extends from Emmerich to Saarbrücken and covers parts of the four federal states of North Rhine-Westphalia, Rhineland-Palatinate, Saarland, and Hesse.
