About EVAM

EVAM is the public law institution mandated by the Canton of Vaud to accommodate asylum seekers and provisionally admitted persons according to the Federal Act on Asylum (LAsi), and to provide emergency aid to persons in irregular situations. Its missions stem from the law on aid to asylum seekers and certain categories of foreigners (LARA), adopted by the Vaud cantonal parliament on March 7, 2006. This law, among other things, requires the institution to organize the reception of unaccompanied minors in a specialized center. The asylum seekers who have filed an asylum application in Switzerland are distributed in a manner proportional to the demographics of the cantons. In the Canton of Vaud, some asylum seekers are partially assisted by EVAM, while others receive all services.
