Esselunga

About Esselunga

Esselunga is one of the main Italian chains in the large-scale retail sector. Its history began in 1957 with the opening of the first supermarket in Italy in Milan; today, through a network of 171 stores, the group is present in Lombardy, Tuscany, Emilia Romagna, Piedmont, Veneto, Liguria, and Lazio with 25,000 employees. In addition to being a retailer, Esselunga is also a direct producer for its customers, qualifying as a true Food Company. In the early 1960s, fresh pasta and baked goods lines were launched, and today the activity has further expanded in production centers in the provinces of Milan, Novara, and Parma, where gastronomic specialties, baked goods, and fresh pasta are produced daily, and where meat and fish products, including sushi, are processed. Furthermore, for some years now, a high-quality artisanal pastry laboratory has been active, in collaboration with the Michelin-starred restaurant Da Vittorio of the Fratelli Cerea brothers, which today boasts the Elisenda brand. Among the first to launch online grocery shopping in Italy, Esselunga is now a leader in Italy and is committed to increasingly strengthening its omnichannel strategy. The company is constantly engaged in product innovation, environmental protection, and consumer safeguarding and works every day to offer carefully selected and controlled quality products, advantageous pricing policies, and protection of eco-sustainability. Since 2018, Esselunga has also hosted the Parafarmacia (parapharmacy), which is currently present in 35 stores. The Esselunga group includes the 7 Urban Store LaESSE, the Bar Atlantic, a consolidated restaurant entity present with 102 Restaurants, and EsserBella, a chain of exclusive perfumeries with 45 beauty boutiques. For 2021, we also achieved the Top Employers Italia certification, which rewards companies that distinguish themselves by their commitment to providing the best working conditions for their employees.
