The Public Mental Health Establishment of Sarthe (EPSM de la Sarthe) is a public institution providing mental health services for children, adolescents, adults, the elderly, and individuals with psychological disabilities. Our professionals offer prevention, diagnosis, and mental health care across the entire Sarthe department, serving approximately 20,000 patients annually. The establishment manages 6 general psychiatry sectors for individuals aged 16 and over, and 2 child and adolescent psychiatry sectors for those under 16. We also provide specialized care for addiction, suicidal ideation, precarious situations, incarcerated individuals, perinatal issues, autism diagnosis, and early detection of neurodevelopmental disorders. These services are spread across more than 30 locations to ensure accessibility for the Sarthe population. EPSM de la Sarthe has 256 psychiatric beds and 130 medico-social accommodation places, including 2 medical-social establishments (MAS) and 1 residential care home (foyer de vie). Mental health care today primarily focuses on outpatient treatment. Hospitalization is a last resort in psychiatry, and alternatives to full hospitalization are central to our offerings. Partnerships with general hospitals and their emergency and other departments allow us to respond to requests for psychiatric consultations and opinions without always requiring hospitalization. With the dedication of our 1400 professionals, including 50 physicians, we continuously develop new projects to meet the evolving needs of the Sarthe population. Located just 1 hour from Paris by TGV, 2 hours by car from the coast, Paris, and major cities in Western France, EPSM de la Sarthe is part of the Sarthe Groupement Hospitalier de Territoire (GHT). The CH du Mans serves as the supporting establishment for this GHT, making it one of the largest non-university hospitals in France.
