EPSAN - A PUBLIC MENTAL HEALTH ESTABLISHMENT The 4th public hospital establishment in Alsace, EPSAN was created in 1999 by the merger of the Brumath and Hoerdt hospital centers. As part of psychiatric sectorization, EPSAN carries out its missions in the northern basin of the Strasbourg Eurometropolis and over a large part of the Bas-Rhin department (404 out of 522 communes), covering a geographical area concerning 68% of the adult population (718,000 adults and 104,710 children) from Wissembourg to Saales and from Sarre-Union to Strasbourg. EPSAN manages: - 8 general psychiatry sectors (adult patients - poles 67G01 to 67G08) - 2 inter-sectors for child and adolescent psychiatry (child and adolescent psychiatry - poles 67I01 & 67I02) - 1 psychiatry sector in a penitentiary setting (regional medico-psychological service - SMPR pole 67P16) In addition to psychiatric activities, EPSAN offers: - 1 autism resource center (C.R.A.) - 1 long-term care unit with a capacity of 72 beds - 1 nursing and nursing assistant training institute (IFSI - IFAS) - 1 medico-social center for severely disabled adults, consisting of: - a medically supervised reception center for 40 adults - a specialized reception house for 24 adults
