The profile of the medium-sized and cooperatively characterized EDEKA association is based on the successful interplay of three levels: Nationwide, around 3,200 independent merchants give EDEKA a face. They take on the role of local suppliers at the retail level, standing for food quality and enjoyment. They are supported by six regional wholesale companies, which deliver fresh goods to the EDEKA stores daily and also assist them with everything from sales to expansion. The coordination of the EDEKA strategy takes place at the Hamburg EDEKA headquarters. It manages national merchandise business as well as the successful "Wir ♥ Lebensmittel" campaign and provides diverse impulses for the realization of cross-subsidiary goals. With its subsidiary Netto Marken-Discount, it also sets successful accents in the discount business. Specialist retail formats such as trinkgut, NATURKIND or budni, the cooperation with the online-based delivery service Picnic and the business with large consumers through EDEKA Foodservice complete the broad spectrum of services of the corporate association. In 2025, EDEKA achieved a turnover of 77.3 billion euros with around 10,900 stores and around 417,500 employees. With around 20,900 trainees, EDEKA is one of the leading trainers in Germany.
