In 1931, Arist Dethleffs decided, "Not without my family!" and constructed Germany's first caravan, which he called a "Wohnauto" (mobile home) at the time, because the ski pole and whip manufacturer wanted to have his family with him on long business trips. Until then, only a few people knew the word "leisure," family holidays were a privilege, and tourism was still in its infancy. The invention of the Dethleffs caravan marked the beginning of a new era, especially for the company, which eventually dedicated itself entirely to caravan and later also motorhome production. The pioneering spirit of the company founder, Arist Dethleffs, can still be felt in the company today. It is evident in the continuous further development of the model series, in countless innovations, and of course in the heart of camping history: the family. Since the very beginning, we have been firmly connected to our location in Isny im Allgäu and, as a "friend of the family," always keep the brand core of Dethleffs in mind. With the young brand CROSSCAMP, we have been building leisure vehicles for urban campers for 5 years. Dethleffs is a company of the Erwin Hymer Group.
