Our clients primarily come from developing and emerging countries, as well as from Germany and other industrialized nations. Around 670 employees work for DEG with great commitment and expertise. They work in Cologne and at 18 other DEG locations around the globe. We have been a subsidiary of KfW since 2001. We reach private companies in developing countries in two ways: We finance them directly with loans and equity investments. We also invest in local banks and financiers who primarily provide financing to small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) on site. We provide them with financing from our own funds on market-oriented terms. Our clients receive capital from us to develop sustainably – capital that is often difficult to obtain, especially in developing countries. And we offer much more than financing: we provide targeted advice to the companies we co-finance in planning and implementing their projects. Expertise and experienced partners are important for investments in challenging markets. We finance and advise: Private companies investing in sustainable infrastructure projects, especially renewable energies, telecommunications, transport infrastructure, and supply and disposal in developing and emerging countries. Industrial, trade, and service companies in developing and emerging markets, as well as investment companies providing equity financing to private companies in these countries. Banks, financial institutions, and specialized financiers that offer reliable access to financing, especially to small and medium-sized enterprises in developing countries.
