About de Waag

De Waag is the oldest and largest center for outpatient forensic psychiatry in the Netherlands. De Waag offers clients and their environment perspective. The outpatient clinic contributes to a safer society by working on sustainable behavioral change for clients. These clients, aged 12 and older, exhibit transgressive and/or criminal behavior and often have (severe) psychological problems. Problematic substance use may also be present. Our employees provide effective and transparent treatments. They focus on risk factors and involve the living environment in the treatment where possible. Based on many years of experience, De Waag's therapists have developed targeted and scientifically supported methods. The treatment offering is divided into three care lines: Domestic Violence, Violence and Aggression, and Sexually Transgressive Behavior. Sometimes it may be necessary to support treatments with medication. As part of De Forensische Zorgspecialisten, De Waag continuously invests in knowledge development. Our therapists are constantly looking for suitable instruments and interventions for our specific target group. If suitable instruments or treatment protocols are not available? Then we develop them ourselves. We monitor the effectiveness of our instruments through research. The knowledge we develop is recorded and shared with others, through presentations at conferences and in publications.
