The Directorate for International Security Cooperation (DCIS) leads and coordinates the operational, technical, and institutional cooperation of the General Directorate of National Police and the General Directorate of the National Gendarmerie abroad, excluding matters falling exclusively under intelligence services. The DCIS acts for all directorates of the Ministry of the Interior. To carry out all its missions, the DCIS relies on a central unit based in the Paris region and a network of internal security services located within French embassies on five continents. Resulting from the pooling of the international police technical cooperation service created in 1961 and the international cooperation sub-directorate of the National Gendarmerie established in 1972, the Directorate for International Cooperation (DCI) was created in 2010. In 2021, an internal reorganization also led to its name change to "Directorate for International Security Cooperation (DCIS)".
