The history of the town, located southeast of Brussels along the Woluwe, is rich with historical, cultural, artistic, and religious events. Originally, Auderghem was just a farm attached to Watermael, nestled in the hollow of the vast clearing formed by the Woluwe valley. The name, Oudrenghem, only appeared in 1251. It is attributed several meanings: ancient dwelling, home of ancestors, etc. Towards the end of the 9th century, other farms were added, forming a small hamlet of about twenty houses sheltering farmers, woodcutters, and broom makers. These families lived off the exploitation of the forest.
