About Colchester School District

Colchester School District serves approximately 2,100 students and employs over 450 faculty and staff members. The district operates two K-2 buildings: Union Memorial School and Porters Point School; a PreK/Grades 3-5 building: Malletts Bay School; a Middle School building: Colchester Middle School; a High School building: Colchester High School; and a High School Alternative Program building: Colchester Alternative Program (CAP). The administrative building is the Central Office, located on the high school campus. Administrative teams throughout the district, including two Vermont Principals of the Year, collaborate to align curriculum and facilitate student transitions. Colchester Schools are known for implementing differentiated instruction to provide all students with meaningful and appropriate educational opportunities. Teachers use personalized learning and various technology tools to deliver an excellent education, focusing on deep content understanding and transferable skills like communication, collaboration, and creativity. Recognizing the need for comprehensive technology skills for future careers, middle and high school students use laptops and Chromebooks in a 1:1 environment. Across the district, students and staff use Google for email, research, collaborative documents and spreadsheets, and presentations. Being a "Google District" helps promote collaboration among classmates. Beyond technology, the district is proud of its robust music and art programs, and one of the region's finest physical education programs. High participation is seen in a wide variety of co-curriculars. Graduates of Colchester High School attend a diverse range of colleges and universities. Colchester is a suburb of Burlington, Vermont's most populous municipality, located north of the city between Lake Champlain and the Green Mountains. Colchester offers access to amenities such as a public beach, recreational paths, marinas, playgrounds, and numerous community, town, and school events.
