The National Confederation of Industry (CNI) is the representative of Brazilian industry. It is the highest body of the employer union system for industry and, since its founding in 1938, has defended the interests of national industry and acts in articulation with the Executive, Legislative, and Judiciary powers, in addition to various entities and organizations in Brazil and abroad. It represents 27 federations of industries and 1,250 employer unions, to which almost 700,000 industries are affiliated. It directly administers the Social Service of Industry (SESI), the National Industrial Apprenticeship Service (SENAI), and the Euvaldo Lodi Institute (IEL). Together with them, it forms the Industry System, which also brings together state federations of industries and employer unions. Since its inception, it has played a leading role in society, promoting debate and seeking consensus on major national issues, especially those impacting the performance of Brazilian industry and economy. An important interlocutor on the national scene, CNI, headquartered in Brasília with a representative office in São Paulo, discusses and presents suggestions for the development and improvement of policies and laws that strengthen the productive sector and modernize the country.
