The CIEE-RS has a 42-year history dedicated to integrating young people into the world of work, currently through the Internship and Legal Apprentice Programs. It also develops other social responsibility initiatives, such as the Citizenship and Talento.com Program, Adult Literacy, and Student Development Courses. The CIEE-RS is a non-profit, non-governmental, private, and self-sustaining institution that provides services to companies, schools, students, and the entire community. The CIEE-RS was founded on April 28, 1969, on the initiative of educators, liberal professionals, business associations, and Training and Development specialists. The idea of creating an integrating body came from Professor Victorio D’Achille Palmieri, who knew the English internship experience and decided to disseminate the project in Brazil, encouraging the creation of CIEEs in São Paulo and Rio de Janeiro and later in other states. Since that time, among the purposes of CIEE-RS has been to "improve the conditions for integrating student youth into the workplace, familiarizing them with corporate reality situations" and "facilitate a better understanding by companies of student problems and professional training." A total of more than 1.4 million high school, technical, and higher education students have been placed in the job market.
