About Centre de recherche et de restauration des musées de France (C2RMF)

The Centre de recherche et de restauration des musées de France (C2RMF) is a national competence service of the Ministry of Culture and Communication for the preservation and study of the cultural heritage conserved by the museums of France. It was created in 1999 by the merger of the Research Laboratory of the Museums of France and the Restoration Service of the Museums of France. The C2RMF's activities are organized around two main areas: scientific research, particularly concerning the knowledge of the constituent materials of works, and the implementation of strategies for the conservation and restoration of museum heritage on a national scale. The Center compiles and disseminates documentation on materials, techniques, and the restoration of collections. Finally, it participates in the State's scientific and technical control in terms of conservation and restoration of collections.
