The Oil Palm Research Center Corporation (Cenipalma) is a non-profit scientific and technical corporation, created in 1991 with the purpose of generating, adapting, validating, and transferring technology in oil palm cultivation, its processing, and consumption. In the late eighties, when Colombia already had about 100,000 hectares planted with oil palm, the technological problems of the crop became more acute, especially concerning the proliferation of multiple pests and the affection of diseases. This coincided with the beginning of the transformation of agricultural research policy in Colombia, and consequently, it was necessary for the country to develop its own research in oil palm. Faced with these trends, the XVII National Congress of Oil Palm Growers made the decision to create its own sectoral research center, and thus, on September 22, 1990, the Oil Palm Research Center Corporation (Cenipalma) was conceived, which began its legal existence on January 1, 1991. The entity obtained its legal recognition through the legal personality granted by the Mayor's Office of Bogotá (Resolution No. 777) on October 28, 1991, and is registered with the Chamber of Commerce of Bogotá under number S0003490. The Center is governed by the statutes amended in the session of the IX General Assembly of June 4, 1999. It is the 1A research group in oil palm, with recognition from Colciencias as a research center, granted by Resolution 859/11.
