California Wound Healing Medical Group, Inc. (CalWound) is a premier medical group specializing in comprehensive and advanced wound care services for both long-term care and home-based patients. We collaborate closely with healthcare organizations to deliver high-quality wound care and management, reducing hospital readmissions and improving patient outcomes. CalWound was founded in 2007 by Dr. Gabriel Halperin, a highly regarded podiatric surgeon with more than 44 years of experience in wound care and foot and ankle surgery. His pioneering work began in the 1980s, when he recognized disparities in wound management among underserved communities in East Los Angeles. Dr. Halperin built a multidisciplinary network of specialists across Los Angeles, including Cedars-Sinai Hospital, to address co-morbidities and provide aggressive, effective wound care. This approach significantly reduced amputation rates and led to the development of some of the earliest wound care centers in California. Today, CalWound operates as a “wound center on wheels,” bringing advanced treatments directly to patients at their bedsides. With over 45 practitioners across Southern and Northern California, our team includes wound care specialists, surgeons, nurse practitioners, and physician assistants, supported by dedicated case managers and quality assurance staff. Together, we bring more than 150 years of combined clinical experience to managing complex wounds with expertise, compassion, and efficiency.
