BURGER KING® was founded in 1954 and is the second largest fast-food hamburger chain in the world. The second restaurant in Europe opened here in Sweden at Gustaf Adolfs torg, Malmö in 1976. Since then, we have expanded to over 100 restaurants throughout Sweden. It all began in Miami with David Edgerton, Jim McLamore and a very simple vision – to serve good, affordable, high-quality food. The first restaurant opened its doors in 1954, shortly followed by the iconic Whopper in 1957, which is still found on Burger King's menus today. After the Whopper became popular in the USA in the 60s, Burger King took its first step out into the world and opened a restaurant in Puerto Rico in 1963. In 1975, the journey continued to Europe, where the first restaurant opened in Madrid. Today, Burger King can be found worldwide with 18,000 restaurants serving 2 billion Whoppers a year – with the same simple vision born in 1954 in every bite. King Food Sverige AB is the master franchisee in Sweden today and is responsible for the brand's franchisees. Globally, the Burger King brand is owned by Restaurant Brands International (RBI), headquartered in Miami, USA.
