The bruno banani underwear GmbH is a fashion company based in Chemnitz. Over 650 specialist stores in Germany and abroad are supplied with products. The brand is also represented by B2B major customers and available in its own online shop as well as on various online platforms. The company was founded on November 1, 1993, by business economist Wolfgang Jassner as the majority shareholder and Klaus Jungnickel in Mittelbach (now Chemnitz) in the buildings of the former state-owned enterprise VEB Trikotex. Initially, designer underwear for men, and soon for women, was produced by 15 seamstresses, eventually also swimwear. In 1999, the company moved to Chemnitz, where around 120 employees were employed in production and approximately 1 million items of underwear were manufactured annually. Since 2019, production has been exclusively in Asia via production service providers. The company headquarters remain in Chemnitz, where 30 employees are employed (as of 2023). Around 70 employees work in the stores. Today, bruno banani is a cult brand.
