About Braintree District Council

An area of contrasts, the Braintree District is an enjoyable and rewarding place to live and work. Just an hour from London in the heart of rural North Essex, Braintree District offers its visitors the quiet charm of the English Countryside, within 15 minutes of the County City of Chelmsford. The district is conveniently situated along the A12 and A120 investment corridors between London and the European ports of Felixstowe and Harwich, and is within 20 minutes drive of Stansted Airport. Constantly improving rail and road connections together with the development of Stansted Airport as London’s third airport have led to significant population and economic growth within the area. At Braintree District Council, our corporate strategy has been developed by asking our residents what is important to them, and how we can improve things. There are six priorities in our corporate strategy for 2020-2024: Connecting people and places, Enhancing our environment, Supporting our communities, Promoting prosperity, Delivering and innovating. Our staff and elected members are committed to delivering this strategy and, as we take our priorities forward, we will continue to consult with and listen to the views and opinions of our residents.
