The Büsch bakery originated from humble family beginnings in the 1970s in the Lower Rhine region. At that time, Norbert Büsch decided to learn the baking trade after building his own brick oven on his parents' farm and baking bread in it. After his apprenticeship and master craftsman examination, the young baker moved to Southern Germany, where he learned the professional subtleties of traditional wood-fired baking as well as other South German specialties. When a small bakery became available for sale in Kamp-Lintfort one day, Norbert Büsch returned and took over the business, including its inventory. Initially, he baked under the established name of the acquired business, later he and his wife opened their first own bakery under the name “Fröhliche Bäckerei Büsch” (Happy Bakery Büsch). A first expansion of the business occurred when the resourceful master baker realized that many workers in the surrounding coal mines had to start their shift without fresh rolls – due to the then-existing night baking ban. His idea: deliver finished bread dough pieces in time to the canteen kitchen, where they could later be legally baked fresh. It wasn't long before other mines wanted to use this service. In this way, the bakery soon supplied all the mines in North Rhine-Westphalia with rolls. Even later, when most of the mines were closed, Norbert Büsch repeatedly adapted and optimized his business resourcefully to the times. The biggest step was the move to a larger bakery building in 2006, the most modern in the region. The new building was preceded by extremely meticulous planning: for four years, Norbert Büsch visited large and small businesses in Europe with a team of engineers and bakers to find the ideal combination of high-tech and worth-preserving baking traditions. Afterwards, the knowledge was implemented for the individual Büsch needs. For example, a baking oven that corresponds to the principle of old stone baking ovens in its working method was specially designed for the Büsch new building. In recent decades, the small Büsch baking business has grown into a not-so-small company with a number of specialist shops in the Lower Rhine region and its immediate surroundings. Büsch now provides employment for many people and supplies many more people daily with fresh baked goods. The company has always retained its original title, “Die fröhliche Bäckerei Büsch,” and its love for the craft of baking.
