About Az Sint-Lucas

AZ Sint-Lucas was formed from the merger of AZ Heilige Familie and AZ Sint-Vincentius. Both hospitals had a century-long tradition as Christian institutions that wanted to embody Christian charity, neighborly love, in helping the sick, suffering, and care-dependent fellow human being. AZ Sint-Lucas built upon that tradition. Later, AZ Volkskliniek was also incorporated into the merged hospital. The Volkskliniek originated from the social-democratic ideology. The social mission of the merged hospital was thus further emphasized. The main mission is to offer quality medicine at affordable prices to anyone who wishes to use the hospital, regardless of religious, philosophical, or political conviction, race, skin color or gender, social or cultural origin, financial or social status. The provision of care responds to evolving needs and ensures that scientific progress benefits everyone. Therefore, we also strive for cooperation with primary care, other hospitals, and other care institutions. AZ Sint-Lucas aims to be a hospital where management, directors, doctors, and all employees work together harmoniously, each realizing their specific mission. Competent employees, working closely together with mutual respect for each other's discipline, are at the service of the patient, who is central. The motivation, commitment, service, and cooperation of all employees and departments largely determine the quality of service. Through constructive consultation, further training, education, and adapted guidance, everyone is given opportunities to find satisfaction in fulfilling their mission and to further develop their potential. The ethical dimension is important. Therefore, we make ethical problems discussable and try to solve them. For this purpose, we have a medical ethics committee.
