BUILD BRIGHTER FUTURES. BUILD YOURS TOO. Children’s residential care will ask a lot of you. It takes patience, resilience, curiosity and the ability to keep building relationships even when things are difficult. We think you should expect a lot from the organisation you choose to work for too. At Athena Care Group, we provide therapeutic residential care for children and young people across South Wales. We want to create homes where young people feel safe, valued and understood, and where the people caring for them feel supported, developed and valued too. WHY ATHENA? We don’t want you to simply take our word for the quality of what we do. Our homes have achieved Excellent ratings from Care Inspectorate Wales, providing independent recognition of the quality of care and support being delivered. We also invest directly in the people delivering it. As part of Athena, you’ll have access to: Private healthcare Support for your health and wellbeing beyond the workplace. Dedicated therapeutic support Our in-house DASHH team works alongside our residential teams, helping staff understand the experiences, emotions and needs that can sit behind children’s behaviour. Genuine career development We invest in induction, training, professional qualifications and leadership development. We want our Support Workers to have the opportunity to become our future Seniors, Deputies and Managers. Recognition and reward Including our attendance bonus and Employee of the Month programme, because commitment and excellent practice should be recognised. A culture that keeps learning We don’t believe achieving an Excellent inspection means we’ve finished. We expect our homes and our people to keep reflecting, learning and improving. UNDERSTANDING THE CHILD BEHIND THE BEHAVIOUR Our approach is trauma-informed, therapeutic and relationship-based. When behaviour becomes difficult, we don’t simply ask: “How do we stop this?” We ask: “What might this young person be communicating, and what do they need from us?” That curiosity matters. Our staff are supported to understand each young person as an individual and to connect theory with what is happening in the home every day. You won’t be expected to have all the answers. You will be expected to keep asking questions, accept guidance, reflect on your own practice and keep learning. WE WANT PEOPLE TO BUILD CAREERS HERE You might join Athena as a Support Worker. That doesn’t mean that’s where your journey has to end. We want to develop our own future leaders, and we create opportunities for people with the right values, ability and ambition to progress through Senior, Deputy and Manager roles. Development isn’t something we want to promise in a job advert and forget about once you’ve joined. We want people to become better because they’ve worked here. WHO ARE WE LOOKING FOR? Qualifications and experience matter for some positions. Character matters in every position. We’re looking for people who can build genuine relationships with children. People with empathy and emotional intelligence. People who can remain curious when behaviour is challenging. People who can receive feedback without becoming defensive. People who are honest when they don’t know something. People who can recognise when they’ve got something wrong and learn from it. And above all, people who understand that children who have experienced trauma need adults who don’t give up on them when things become difficult. Our culture is guided by five values: Honesty • Respect • Integrity • Openness • Safety They’re not words we want you to memorise before an interview. They’re how we expect all of us to behave when it matters. THIS WORK MATTERS. There will be brilliant days. There will be difficult ones. There will be young people who challenge you, teach you, frustrate you, make you laugh and occasionally make you question everything you thought you knew. That’s children’s residential care. We’ll ask you to bring your best to our children. And you should expect Athena to bring its best to you. Build Brighter Futures.
