Atalco Gramercy Operations, located on the Mississippi River in Gramercy, Louisiana, is one of the few United States-based alumina refineries in operation. This facility imports bauxite from our surface mining operation in Jamaica; the bauxite ore is transported by ship to Gramercy, where it is unloaded and eventually refined into Alumina, the common name for aluminum oxide. We use a sustainable, continuous loop process of mixing, digestion, clarification, precipitation, and calcination to produce more than 1 million metric tons per year of wet cake, dry hydrate, and smelter grade alumina. These products are used for a variety of specialized products and as an intermediate step in the production of aluminum. We proudly serve the chemical, pharmaceutical, manufacturing, coating, and pigment industries on a global scale.
