Our story began with the dream of a great entrepreneurial woman, the Spaniard Asunción Romacho. In 1960, Dona "Asun", as she was affectionately called, arrived in Brazil. She brought with her on the ship her three children, her mother-in-law, and seven years of experience as the owner of a hardware store in the Spanish city of Guadix, Andalusia. In 1963, her husband Ernesto set up a small grocery store next to the family home in the Cavalhada neighborhood, where everyone worked together for years. In 1975, the family left Porto Alegre for Quintão, facing many challenges, as there was no electricity in the city at that time. Lighting was provided by lanterns. Meat, butter, and perishables were kept in styrofoam coolers. There were no set hours. "I sometimes started at 7 AM and only left at midnight. I stayed as long as there were customers" - recalls the matriarch, in good Spanish, which more than 40 years in Brazil haven't made her lose. Asunción spent 10 years in Quintão. Until returning to Porto Alegre in 1985. Upon returning to the capital, the founder of the business did not give up her place, standing behind the store's cash register. The chain grew, and the matriarch of a supermarket family now has her nickname emblazoned on the facade of 40 stores + 3 Distribution Centers, now present not only on the beaches of Rio Grande do Sul but also in Porto Alegre, the Porto Alegre Metropolitan Region, and Serra Gaúcha.
