About Asmae-Association Soeur Emmanuelle

Asmae is an independent, secular, and apolitical French international solidarity NGO specializing in child development. It was created in 1980 by Sister Emmanuelle based on her experience with ragpickers in the slums of Cairo. Asmae continues its work respecting the values and methods inherited from its founder: listening and proximity, pragmatism, consideration of differences, professionalism, and reciprocity. Asmae's action aims to support vulnerable children and their families through tailored, long-term support for local actors working in child education and protection. Its vision, "A just world that guarantees children can live and grow with dignity with their families and their environment to become free women and men, actors in society," is broken down into four missions: To promote child development through a global approach, acting also on family support by considering the environment; To strengthen the capacity of local child development actors, enhance synergies among them, and maximize their social impact; To defend the cause of the child through awareness-raising and advocacy; To experiment, disseminate, and spread. Today, Asmae supports and accompanies projects in the fields of education and child protection carried out by 64 local organizations in Burkina Faso, Egypt, France, India, Lebanon, Madagascar, Mali, and the Philippines. Asmae also acts directly with beneficiaries within the framework of its mother-and-child reception center in Bobigny, France.
