We are the AIVD. We stand for the safety of the Netherlands and for protecting democracy against national and international threats. The General Intelligence and Security Service (AIVD) works for the safety of all Dutch citizens. We investigate and interpret covert political intentions and risks to national security. From radicalization and terrorist violence to digital threats and espionage by other countries. The Intelligence and Security Services Act 2017 gives us the capabilities to discover such matters early. We use technical means and human sources in our work, and we collaborate nationally and internationally. This allows us to obtain information that no other organization has. The role of ICT is becoming increasingly important: developments such as artificial intelligence and machine learning help us analyze and interpret (sometimes) large amounts of data. In addition, we are allowed to use special intelligence methods if they are necessary for our investigation, such as tracking and observing individuals. Our employees all contribute to our mission from their own expertise and share the conviction that we work together towards a common goal: making and keeping the Netherlands as safe as possible.
