About AGIR

The Agir, based in Affoltern am Albis, is a family business in its fourth generation. The first activities as a gravel company date back to 1908, when gravel extraction and trade began in the Hardwald, in the municipality of Unterengstringen in the Limmattal valley. The name AGIR could also be derived from "agir", the French word for acting. However, it is primarily a word creation from the name Anton GIRschweiler, from whom various gravel works in the Säuliamt and Freiamt were taken over in 1988. This is how the current AGIR AG was created with around 260 employees and plants in Affoltern am Albis, Amsteg, Merenschwand, Obfelden, Mülibach, and Unterengstringen. Agir is therefore also an attractive employer in the Zurich South-West region. In addition to the main business of trading gravel, sand, concrete, mortar, and asphalt, Agir also offers skips of all sizes, recycling, and contaminated site remediation. Subsidiaries in the fields of earthworks, concrete pumps, water treatment, and plant construction complete the range of services.
